They were cured up. I will get a pic but do anyone of you know what it comes from. I have heard alot of different things so far, any other opinions?

I have seen this once before. I think that it has to do with the habitat the animal lives in, at least that's what I heard. Living in a swamp, the deer does not have enough abrasion to its hooves to wear them down, and they continue to grow.

Goats hooves will do the same thing if they don't have hard surfaces to walk on. Gotta trim my goats all the time. Swamp deer typically have that overgrowth. Pretty cool though.

I'm thinking that it's what Mrs. Buckmasta said Zimmy, She wasn't getting up enough to feed and stuff, not walking around enough, that's the only logical thing to assume since there aren't any swamps nearby

My brother killed a decent buck over in Kent some years ago, that had the same thing. Some folks from U of MD were at the check station, doing some kind of research (I THINK Lymes disease),and said that they had seen a few hooves like that.It was symptomatic of some disease.I just can't remember what!

Here is a pic I took about 2 years ago. The hooves of an elf footed deer taken in Charles County by a guy I know. They were pretty wild looking to me & I just found the pic, so here it is... Not the greatest because I took it with my phone.
