My buddy Andy shot a monster 11 point Saturday. he had seen the deer a whiole back and missed with his muzzle loader. it was chasing a doe then. so saturday he went out and put up a doe decoy, cut loose a couple doe estrus buck bombs and a young buck bomb. he said he did a couple bleats and grunts on his grunter and the big boy came right in, neck still swolt and tarsel glands smelling to high heaven. he should be getting the pics back this week i will post when he does. but a real nice buck... still chasing

I've read that bucks will mate as long as they have hard antlers. My nephew saw a big 8 point on Saturday with 2 does at 1:30 in the afternoon on his way to his stand and could not get a shot. In my opinion, bucks are always in rut during hunting season. I saw more and bigger scraps on our property in Nanjemoy after shotgun season than I did before shotgun season. I'm thinking that after the peak estrous period in early November Bucks had a harder time finding receptive Does and make more scrapes to try and find them. It's not this way every year on our property but it was this year.

Oh yeah, they are still rutting. I went out saturday evening and bagged probably my biggest buck yet.I went as hardcore as I could go,setting out a decoy, doe in heat buck bomb, and a young buck bomb.I did a few sessions of bleating and grunting and there he was. As he approached my climber he was in the midst of rubbing and freshening his scrapes. So yes, I believe they are still rutting enough that I am going too try all this again for bow.
