I have a 58 cal black powder rifle I bought several years back. Does anyone know of a local store where I can get .58 sabots, or even round balls. I looked around a couple years ago and wasn't able to find ammo for it localy.
Thanks for any info.

If not search the net. Buy enough to last you a few years then you'll be set for a while.

Is the old Dixie Gun Works catalog still aroun? .58 is a caliber they use a lot in Civil War re-enactments, look for places that carry that sort of stuff.

Thanks, I wouldn't have thought of going the re-enactment route. I have basically searched the standard catalogs and stores. They can be a pain trying to order them because you sometimes pay as much in shipping as you do for the rounds because they are so heavy.

You could also plan on a trip to Cabelas, they normally have most of the wierd stuff. It's one of the very few places I can get wads, shotcups, etc for my 10 ga blackpowder shotgun (got it at a Cabelas out west bout 10 years ago, neat toy). I saw some .58 gear in their catalog, probably have some in Hamburg PA or Wheeling WV stores.

I have never been, but from what everyone has told me, Cabelas in PA blows Bass Pro near Baltimore out of the water... Any one interested in taking a trip?

Any Cabelas blows away BPS stores, at least for hunting. It's like ToysRUs for hunters! I've been to almost a half dozen of them and there's never a bad one. The one in PA is one of the biggest ones, too. And if you get hungry they have a restaurant in the back - and you can get venison or buffalo brats!!!

Guess you've confirmed what I've heard about Bass Pro v. Cabelas. From what I understand, the Cabelas in PA is part museum/part store. I will be there soon to check it out!

I've been there. The muesum is unreal. Thirty or forty full body mount whitetail. And a whole safari scene with lions elephants zebra, etc. Even the wife liked it!

Good to know that the wife liked it - guess that means I can make it an all-day affair.
