Db, someone must have been pulling your leg no such regulation. The only Dorchester specific regulation I can think of is that you are allowed to use buckshot. This is the only county in MD, where buckshot is permitted.

Slugs are quickly advancing so you could say the range is 150 yards if you can shoot and you practice- I use buckshot in Va when i hunt and depending on the choke and gun 3in buck has a range around 35 yards if you get a special choke and special shell then there ar claims of 50- 55 yards--using Nitro Cartridge co ammo- heavy shot- I use a 10ga with 00 buck and have killed deer out to 60 yards.

Dorchester you can use a shotgun during firearms season, but not blackpowder. Only county for buckshot. I try and keep shots inside 40 with 00 buck, but have rolled them out at 50-55 when running and already shooting at them, but patterns open up quick at that range.

From a stand I'd use a rifle! I generally save the buckshot for walking marsh, jumping them or hunting very thick spots. If I'm carrying the shotgun I carry a few of each in my pocket just in case.
