My first non-spike stag. I shot the 5 pt stag 3 or 4 minutes after getting in the stand a little late and dropped him in his tracks at 16 yards. Let him lay and kept hunting. I shot the doe about an hour later about 10 yards from where the stag was laying. I had the crosshairs on the lead doe but she spooked when she almost stepped on the stag. The second doe jumped into an opening and presented a shot. She ran about twenty yards and went down. Shotgun season was over in about an hour and a half (minus the 3/4 mile of dragging). I have taken a spike in early muzzy season from the same tree and a spike from the same tree last shotgun. I shot a spike last october with the bow from a tree less than 100 yards from this spot. I love sika hunting. i'm getting the stag mounted. Attachments:

Cool, you're having a heck of a season and sounds like you're really hooked!
A tip on the 3/4 mile drag, hunt near Big Fix and he'll carry your deer out for you, he'll even wear it like a hat if you've gut it already!

We load the sika on a plastic snow sled to help drag them out on. It really helps. I've drilled holes around the edge so I can lace cord through to tie them in tight. It floats out on the water, sort of and slides right over the grass, pine neeedles, and logs and when tied in they don't hang up on everything. It works well for whitetails too although you need a larger sled. It helps to have a cart though once you hit the road.

Viking makes a game sled that I cannot find online but the Cabelas in Maine or up that way had them in stock. I am really kicking myself for not getting myself one when I was in the store. They use them in Maine to drag the bears out and it worked like a champ. I may have to call Cabelas directly and see if they can tell me where to find them online.

Congrats, that's getting it done!
I bought some plastic sled/tobaggon thing from Cabelas in the mid 90s for under $20, and have pulled TONS of deer, and even a moose (in pieces ) with it ,thru water, mud, grass, rocks, logs, etc and it is still holding up well!.
Has ropes laced thru it to hold down, then when you pull, they snug right up
