I went to check on one of my game cameras last weekend and found that someone had taken a hatchet to it. The python cable lock was untouched and still on the tree. Some small parts of the case were on the ground and I guess they took all the bigger broken parts with them. It must have taken their pic and they spotted it. All they had to do was cut the lock but decided to destroy it to make sure their photo wasn't used against them. $300 down the drain. You gotta love a trespassing vandal.

Sucks to hear that. I've got trespassers who steal from my vegetable garden, but I've been afraid of putting out a camera for that same reason. I figure if they are going to take vegetables they'd have no problem taking my camera too.
Good luck on figuring out who it was.

It was in Nanjemoy and I'm sure it was someone close. I don't know of too many people who carry hatchets with them so they had to go back home and get one(guessing). No 4wheeler tracks so I think they were on foot...but you never know. I've had problems with the people behind our property trespassing in the past and I'm almost certain that's where this came from. I guess because they live down there and I don't, they feel like they have some sort of right to use the property even though it's posted. It sucks but that's just how it is in some places.

I had a ladder stand stolen this year as well. Someone must be hard pressed to pack up a ladder stand and steal it. Sucks

Sorry to hear that you guys lost equipment too. I know there's people that are going through some tough times out there but stealing and destroying property...it just isn't right.

like you said some guys down this way get this entitlement thing and when i pick up a new place i have to deal with the local idiots who think no matter what they should have hunting rights to the property because they are neighbors or because they hunted it before then i cant put out cameras or fixed stands and worry about someone screwing with my truck

It's only gonna take one good pic for me to bring the hammer down, I prosecute. That's the first time in 20 yrs. that I've had property damage but that could be because they are just using my stands Who Knows ?

That does suck. I had a ladder stand stolen a few years ago from a lease I was in on Smallwood Church Rd.
I found it 2 years later on an adjoining property while tracking a doe, came back later, took it back and left a note on the tree for them to call me if they wanted to talk about it. Never got a call.
I knew it was mine, I etch my last name on the underside of the back part of the platform.

Glad to hear you got your stand back sideways. It's always good to find out at least what happened to your equipment.
