Got out of my car at work and heard gobbles between the middle school I work at and the elementary school down the road. Been practicing my calling so they were in my car! Walked 30 yards in and found a spot with cover and got down. Can't hunt there anyways so I figured I would use this as practice! Made one simple call and heard them gobble. Waited a minute and called again. Gobbles are now closer! Hear a hen that is with them as well. When she called she sounded close so I let a series go and BOOM!!! They are topping the hill at 20 yards! Man it was crazy! Bow or gun I could have got at least one! BIG tom with two smaller ones and the hen. Beard was really long and he had to weigh at least 20lbs. All three were in full strut!!! Got me excited for the season!! HERE IS MY QUESTION....If they are that hot now what does this mean for the 11th and 18th???

Brett ,they are now going through there first period of breeding like the rut. The second usually follows 30 days after, just like the rut. this is what they say in my turkey magazines anyhow. Man that is definetly exciting!3years ago at this time , my nephew and i did some early morning scouting to find a whole flock fly down within 50 yards and watched 2 big gobblers duke it out. Man i wish i would have had a video cam. I t was one of the most exciting times i ever had in the woods!

I am going to go to places that I can't hunt and try and video tape. I have several places that I can access but not allowed to have firearms. My buddy said that his mother in law called him and told him that there were turkeys chasing each other around her backyard and she has been hearing them gobble every morning for the past week. I am so pumped for the season now! All I need is a shotgun or bow in hand!

They're still off and on over here. Have seen toms strutitng and hens wandering around looking for nest sites, but have also still seen big flocks of 20-50 birds. It'll be fine come season. The 11th should be good, youth day always seems to be about when they are really loud and gullible, just as it should be.

I went out scouting sunday morning and man was it ever exciting!!!At 6:30 am i got out of the truck and it wasn,t even 5 minutes and the gobbling started. by 6:45 am i definetly heard at least 4 to 5 turkey hammering! I dropped down to the creek bottom and decided to climb the ridge because of 3 gobblers in that area hitting off every 3 to 5 minutes. I wanted to see what was winding them up . I guess i was within 150 yards from them and i then heard a hen yelping, and it was just on the other side of the ridge. I decided i was going to crawl slowly to the top and see if i could get a peak of the birds. When i finally got to the top,I sotted the turkeys about 60 yards away. Then gobble!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They were right there! 2 NICE TOMS camein and started to fight right in front of me ! The battled it out 2 more times!! All of the ruckus carried on for about 15 more minutes. Why didn,t i bring my video cam!!!!! All together there was at least 20 turkeys. I slowly backed my butt out of there being sure not to spook them. Man that sure was the best experience i ,ve had scouting turkeys!!!! So guys bring your cams while scouting , because you never know what nature will throw at you!!! I can,t wait to get back in the woods this saturday!!!!!
