Been turkey hunting for a few years and even killed 3 or4 . Thinking about trying it with a bow. With turkeys its all about the hunt not the kill, with me anyway.Has anyone tryed it and how about so pointers.Sit up broadheads and the like.Thinking about Blackwater so I can look around, any suggestion about this?

Well not at Blackwater, they haven't had any turkey hunting yet (supposed to be coming, but doubt this year since we still haven't heard anything about it) and don't allow off season scouting. Killed 3 with bow, all Merriams in North Dakota, get a blind and use it as drawing on them is the hardest part. I need to kill one around here with bow, but like moving around too much and like the Bang-Flop a bunch, too.

sounds good! I haven't spoked with Allan since deer season, I'll have to give him a call this week and get the details. Could be good in there with all those un-hunted birds!

It is a GREAT experience & well worth the effort. I built a small blind out of fallen trees and branches on the edge of a field. Put a couple of decoys out, facing me - that way the turkey SHOULD come in & get between the decoys & you. This way their attention is off of you when you need to draw. From what I have found, a freshly worked field is just like bait for turkey, especially after a rain. I think that they like to go out & dust their feathers to get the bugs off. buckwild2006.proboards101.com/index.cgi?board=turkey&action=display&thread=1525There are a couple of pics of my setup that paid off last season.

I shoot a 90 grain muzzy. The bird went about 70 yards after the shot. (Me right on his tail the whole time...I didn't want to let him get out of my sight, but it wouldn't have mattered)
I like the idea of barred feathers - I think they are more camouflaged, but still easy for me to see.

I'm going to have to check into this blackwater thing. I had heard no this year as well. Send me a PM if you have any specific details.

On all of the 3-D shoots I go on in PA they always have a turkey facing away from you and there is actually a target on the butt!!

I got my blackwater mailing Friday, sent it back today. $10, a chance at one hunting day via lottery, they scout Mon and Fri and hunt Tues and Sat each week, must be in by March 21. You don't get any choice on areas, they assign them. Be interesting to see how it works out.

Dave, I sent mine in as well. I don't know how it is going to turn out. I hope no one posts about it on the other forums.
