Been hunting sika for awhile, about 25 years but always on the beach.Seems that everyone here hunts Blackwater. For what reason I don't know but untill this year I had never been to Blackwater hunting. Was working up that way and had someone take me 2 times just before blackpower.I just though hunting the beach was hard!!!!Had a 4 point at 10 yards the first night and let it go nice not small but I just couldn't see that drag for less than a 6 or BETTER.I have seen a 7 at the beach but I hear now an then an 8 can be had up there. It take a bad man or woman to hunt Blackwater.I WILL be back next year but I think I need a bag man to get my stag out

Welcome to the site!
I've been thinking about going to the beach areas, but it is just an extra hour from home...May have to make the drive some time, at least for the experience.
The big man who replied to you first is GREAT at dragging sika out of the marsh. ;D
Hope to hear some stories from you.

Good, so you WILL be pushing marsh for me this year Fox! I've hunted AINS a bit, but never got too into it down there. Even when I lived in OC I came back to Dorchester to hunt sika. I just never saw the sign or deer on the coast that I do over here, although I mainly hunt state lands and BW only occasionally. Talked to a few guys at Assateague that have been at it for a long time and they all lament the sad state of sika hunting down there lately, they all believe the park service has the limits set to hammer 'em too much. Still a fun hunt just for something different, and lunch on the beach while the porposies swim by is almost worth the trip. And I LOVE the way they have the primitive muzzleloader season set the past two years, wish all of MD had that.

The beach used to be GREAT but now with what the limits are its hurting the hunt badly. You can take 4 with bow 2 with M L and 4 with shotgun Thats 10sika from an island 12miles long and 1/2 mile wilde WAY too many. You can also take 1 whitetail with each, it must have 3 points on 1 side. All this and it doesn't count towards the state. So yes the hunt has gone way down hill. But I still love it and still get a few each year.

Osprey I must know you or at least have met you down there. If you've been in the office the 2,6 point mounts and the 6 point skull are mine.had the skull caps of a 13" spike dressed at 113 lbs and a 4 point 114 on the hoof in the box. But someone must have liked them enough to take them. What ever makes them happy!! They all know me on there my hunter I. D. is 28
