Got out Saturday for the first day of late BP season, at Blackwater, had a pretty fun day. Saw one sika 200 yds east of me, later saw another 400 yards west of me, but none close enough to shoot while on stand. Coming out I snuck along a creek/gut edge checking the cordgrass thickets, I know they like to bed in those. Almost back to the parking area and saw a sika head poke out of the grass, looking around, so I swung wide and came up on it from the open side. I got to 10 feet, saw it peeking at me through the grass, put the front blade sight of the flintlock square between it's eyes. ;D But it was a hind, and I filled the antlerless tag back in October BP. Took a step to flush her anyway, and she hopped out of the grass right at me! I coulda touched her with the gun barrel. She jumped a small circle back into the same thicket and I jumped her again. Again she hopped at me, within a few feet, before heading into the shortgrass marsh. Stood at 30 yards, broadside, and looked at me. Dangit, I wanted to shoot her. Fun morning!

Very cool story. Went out Thursday hunting ducks; shaggy stag walks past me, no ducks. Went Sat. w/ the smoke pole for sika; all I saw was ducks; damn the luck! Next time you need a back up I'll be glad to fill my hind tag ;D
