Nice stag and NICE to see a 94 still getting it done! Is that a Williams sight on it? (carried a Marlin 336 lever in .35 Rem in Dorchester a LONG time ago)

Not sure Davep if it's a Williams sight? It was a hand me down from my father who never actually hunted with it. He bought it because he always liked the old cowboy look of the gun but he wasn't a deer hunter! It is a peep sight, only one I've ever seen on a rifle! I know that I love the gun as it has now taken 2 Sika's and one whitetail since I've been shooting it! What a great gun!!

That Marlin was one of the only guns I've ever gotten rid of, and I STILL regret it. I fell into that "have to have the latest/fastest/most superfantabulous" thing mindset. Never mind that most of the deer I've taken have been just about in bow range, because I usually hunt THICK cover.
And I now know that my 94 is going to the range with me next trip! It's been left alone far too long!

Davep, Just a suggestion, try out the new Hornady LeverEvolution ammo. That's what I've been using now. It will allow your lever gun to shoot accurately out to 100+yds!! I shot this stag at 90yds through the open marsh with open sights! I bought the 160grain and have been really happy with it's performance on the 2 sika's I've shot with it this year.

LOL, years ago I loaded up 125 or 130 grain spire points, made for handguns (TC) to open at lower velocities, for my 30.30. Could only put one in the chamber and one in the tube, so turned it into a two-shot, to gain a little ballistic edge. Now mostly hurl 170 grains. Why try to turn it into something it ain't? But do like the idea of the Hornadys.
