I have never shot a retractable broadhead before and have heard to many bad stories about them to try one. Is there anyone out there that has had success with them?

I shoot only fixed blades. 7 years ago I tried mechanical broad heads and lost the biggest buck I'd seen at that time. Hit him in the shoulder and dropped him. He got up and ran couple seconds later. Found the arrow which only penetrated like an inch or two. Tracked blood for three hours. A fixed blade I believe would have penetrated, opened him up, and bled him out. Maybe there better mechanicals now but I can't chance losing another deer.

I shoot G5 Tekan ll broadheads. I LOVE them! They have a small fixed blade on the tip and mechanical blades on the side. I have never lost a deer with them. When the blades are opened it cuts a 1-5/16 hole. Major damage.

A few years back, I was shooting a mechanical blade & did so for only part of one season. I hit a nice buck at 25 yardsright in the sweet spot & the arrow didn't even penatrate. Just got about an inch of the broadhead in. Needless to say, the deer got away & my arrow was laying on the ground about 10 feet from where it impacted the deer.
DOWN WITH THOSE THINGS
Muzzy'll make their heads feel fuzzy.

I used a Muzzy Phantom 4 blade, 100 grain to take my bear. Pass through, the bear didn't make it 10 yards from where I hit him. I am a firm believer in the fixed blade.

100 grain 3 and 4 blade muzzy for me.. those things are extremely strong and i have had complete pass through with every deer i have shot except for one i hit in the spine and that one went through the spine, and the broad head ended un in its lungs, and dropped it in its tracks.. those Muzzys are awesome.

I will shoot nothing but Rocket Hammerhead 3 blade 100gr expandable broadheads. I have shot muzzy and thunderhead and none of them fly tru out of my bow. I shoot a PSE Brute Force with an overdraw and carbon arrows. This combo shoots over 300 on the chrono so fixed blades tend to plane very badly. I have killed a bunch of nice deer all of then complete pass through and non of them ran more than 60 yards before they expired. The hammerhead broadheads have never failed me and the channel they cut into the deer leaves so much blood it looks like somebody used spray paint all over the woods. Gotta love 2" cutting diameter! www.rocketaerohead.com/broadheads/hammerhead-hunting-broadheads.html

I use the Tekkan II also! Love them! Only shot at one deer and I am 1/1! Will have more time to hunt at the end of the season!

I have great success with NAP Spitfire 125s with goldtip 5575 shafts, have shot over 30 deer with this combo. I take broadside or slight quartering shots only. Blow through every deer except when i hit off side shoulder.

I have used both. I lost what would have been my first big buck with a bow using the NAP spitfire's five years ago. One blade did not open and bent causing only minimum penatration. (And just so everyone knows I have 16lbs of kenetic energy over the recomended 55 lbs.)
On the other hand My brother in-law still uses the Spitfire's and has complete success, so go figure!
Now I use Muzzy 3 blades (100gr) and have had complete pass through on every deer. From now on it will be Muzzy all the way. I may try the Muzzy 4 blades. Does anyone have any pro's or con's between the 3 or 4 blades?

I have never tried the 3 blade, but have been using the 4 blade version for over 10 years with no reason to switch.

Has anyone found a fixed broadhead that shoots consistent patterns. I have considered switching to a mechanical, but I really don't want to, just can't find a fixed broadhead that it true.
