Anyone have any experiuence on lower units on an outboard engine..I have a Evinrude etec 90horse..I broke the skeg this morning...Does anyone have any idea if I can buy a Lower unit housing and replace it with my units parts? Anyone know how much a lower unit housing would cost?..I cant find any info online about $
Thought about a skeg protector..but it would bother me knowing that skeg is still broke under the protector

I've bent a few! How much is broke off?
IF it needs to be replaced, check Fairwinds up near Cape Saint Claire. (AACo) They have LOTS f old stuff laying around:may have a hosuing and can swap your internals.

Talked to the insurance adjuster..and they want to weld a new skeg on instead of putting a new lower unit on...I dont think i want to go this way because its a brand new engine..Dam insurance adjusters trying to keep the cost below my deductable..bastards. I want a new lower unit housing
what should i do?

I really wouldnt be scared of a replacement skeg... as long as its a weld on it should be just as good as original.. sometimes when you replace the lower unit which you would only get an empty housing then you have to worry about the new seals and such being installed correctly

good point about the seals...But Im worried the new skeg wont like like the original..and will they paint it?
I would nt be to concerned if I had an old engine..but this one is brand new

i watched them weld on one on the outdoor channel one day some kind of boat show ...but when they were done you couldnt tell the difference and because they made a jagged seam between new and old it was just as strong as the original

I've got a 21' center console similar to that one. I've been out in the ocean in it 5 or 6 times, but never very far. Furthest out I've been is about 5 miles or so. Gotta pick your days though.
