Been "sightings" forever. One a few years back in the Chaptico area and one around Budds creek.
Whether or not they're there, I have no clue. After that 300# killed on the BW Parkway a few years back....
And anyone remember the one that the off duty cop shot in Charlotte Hall in the 70s? It's head used to be on display at Pt Lookout, if I recall correctly.
Might just be one FAT, arthritic black lab! ;D

Yeah they have been seeing bears around here for years. How true it is I dont know. I would love to get bears established down here that weould be great. Maybe then after a few years we could get a bear season here too.

If any of you guys are felling brave enough to tackle him with a lasso, bring him on over to the Shore! I bet they'd get really fat on beans and sweet corn.

I remember YEARS ago that Pocomoke and surrounds was being mentioned as suitable habitat, but I doubt you'll EVER see any State transplant program.
That means it's us to US! ;D

I'm pretty sure that bear was a escaped pet. No bear that wasn't used to people already would be running through yards and being seen by so many people. My guess is someone bought a bear as a pet (there cheap couple hundred bucks) bear was pregnant, had a cub, got aggresive to protect cub, got let go. Or maybe escaped from a backyard pen. And who's going to call animal control and say there pet bear got away? www.adpost.com/us/pets/67/

I don't know Hardcore. Ran into a guy this week that I haven't seen in over 15 years: he runs bear hounds in WV. Said that they are having all kinds of trouble with bears in towns in some areas. People being around didn't bother them in the least. Nor did pet dogs. Population are so high in some areas that they are going to have an early season to try to take more sows.
And we had lunch with a guy from British Columbia that said they had a bear, in town, come into their supermarket, through the automatic door.
During business hours!!!

I thought (hoped) I saw one last year in Port Tobacco while deer hunting. It was just about dark so I tried to tell myself that the huge body walking by wasn't a monster buck I couldn't get a shot on.
I don't know for sure, so I'm hoping. ;D

I like the idea of a bear season! I would love to take one with my bow! I would love to encounter one while hunting! As long as it does not see me!

Couple years back we had a huge black bear run through a bunch of yards in my hometown in PA. Enough woods for it there to make a home but they can be seen running through yards down here with as little woods as they have to make a home. Especially if they are mulitplying!
