Looking for advice or recomendations. I really would like to get a flintlock to shoot with and try to take a few deer with . I have no experie :)nce with these and was wondering do you buy a kit, or is there somewhere to buy them assembled and knowing some of you already have these what are the pitfalls most people make with these. Thanks ahead of time for your help.

I'd look into the Lyman's Great Plains rifle. Available as either finished or a kit, LH or RH. And with so many folks going to inlines, maybe try used? Might be able to get one cheap. You've got year now, so take your time and look around. Good luck!

I'll 2nd Dave, the lyman is one of the better production guns for flinters, a Hawkens style gun. When you get one, shoot, shoot and shoot some more. Find a club to shoot with if you can, you'll learn a lot. Visit www.muzzleloadingforum.com, prowl around and ask questions, TONS of info, also a good used/for sale forum where you might find something. Visit the Spring Market Fair at Fort Frederick, too, late April!!!!!
