When making my way through the woods during early morning is there any color light that I can take , that turkey can't see, so I can make less noise walking through the woods?? I made a ton of noise stepping on branches and making my way around newly fallen trees.

I don't think so. I never use a light turkey hunting, other than one in my pocket if another hunter comes near. Just go slow and feel your way along. I think the light would bother them more than the noise, they surely hear deer crunching along on the leaves all night.

I have been going out the last two mornings and I have not been able to get them to shock gobble with my owl call. I know I am using it correctly but they aren't saying anything!! I know that they are there cause saturday they shock gobbled to geese but not my owl or crow call and this morning I kicked one out of the roost. Blew my call a good 75-100 yards and heard nothing! My buddy said they aren't shock gobbling cause they are not hot yet. Is this true?? Man I have learned so much this spring! Thanks in advance!!

when out saturday i too used my owl call to try and shock gobble some birds, but had no success. so i waited and then tried my crow call. had no success with that either. when walking through the woods to the spot i was going to hunt i kicked one off the roost as well. kind of odd to me. i didnt hear a thing at all.

The more you call/shock the birds now, the less good it'll do you when you're playing for keeps!

I agree with davep. If they were responding to geese, maybe it's time to break out the goose call? Or just try anything to shock them into a gobble. Someone mentioned a whistle...

Tried my whistle too but didn't work either. I will take my goose call Friday and use it once. I know where I am going so I will call with my goose call when I get to the ridge before the swamp and see what happens before I go to my spot.

I agree. Walk slow and stalk. I,ll second that notion!! I don.t like using a flashlight, remember they are high in the trees, maybe see you a long ways away with a light. Just take your time and stalk.

I have read in some turkey mags not to use a light at all. Sometimes you just have to get in early and take your time.
