Finally got my first good hunting pouch done last night - had to, it was a birthday present for today! Last October when my young friend Logan killed his first deer I told him I'd either tan the hide hair on for him, or do it hair off and make him a pouch for his blackpowder/mountain man kit. He of course chose the pouch. Here's his whitetail hide after the tanning process... ...body of the pouch cut out and stitched together, with a pillow ticking lining... ...body and pieces for the strap while dyeing... The dye is really neat, a cider vinegar/rusty nail mix that sits for a week and brews. This is with three coats, gives it an old, antique look... And he decided he liked the sika pelts and wanted one with that as the flap, so I cut a piece off for him to finish it, then stitched more of the leather to some jute webbing for an adjustable strap... Gave it to him today for his birthday after we got in from getting him a turkey. I don't think he's taken it off yet, says he can't wait to wear it to the next shoot. ;D

Osprey, I know I have said it a few times before........but you are the man! If you make it to the expo this year I'll buy you a beer. Its great to see someone so involved in the young hunters. When this kid turns 80, he'll still be talking about the guy who introduced him to the great outdoors.

Probably not Dave, you should stick to the brown Carhart coveralls, but don't forget that white hanky in the back pocket!!
