Started throwing a shed antler for my lab yesterday, gonna try to train her for antler hunting. I know a guy that uses his dog and finds TONS of sheds he'd normally never see. She's pretty smart, so we'll see how this goes. Anybody else use a dog??

I've never heard of it, but it sounds like a good idea - why not?? I'm sure there's some sort of scent on antlers that a dog will be able to pick up on.

I've always played with antlers around her in the house, and she likes to sniff the ones laying around, so I don't think it'll be too hard. She's a funny dog sometimes - every once in a while she'll walk around the room and stare up at each deer head for a few seconds. Would like to know what's going through her head! Does she wonder why they don't move, or if she'll end up like that?!?!

I read that people use a device that 'launches' the antler threw the air. Dogs retrieve it like it was an animal or tennis ball. After training like this they will sniff out and stand at point on an antler, like it was a bird, expecting it to be launched.
