I have a weatherby 30-6 and a bought a nice leupold scope for it. The first year I used this rig I had no problems sighting it in, and in fact i shot a nice 5pt in West Virginia. The following season I couldn't get it to shoot right. The scope was bottomed out and I was still shooting really high. Luckily I had a back up gun and took the scope off it. Got it shoot good, but this scope was almost bottomed out. I was thinking maybe I need to shim the scope. I have never done this, does anyone know anything about this?? Definitely need some help!!!

If the same rig worked last year, something else is wrong. Did you use Loctite on all threads?

I'm not sure if I did or not. I usually do when mounting scopes.

I ran into this same thing with a .270 light bbl. I found out that the stock was to blame. Over the spring and summer, the wood stock warped and put alot of pressure on that light bbl. pushed it straight up. I fixed it by beding the stock. This may not be your problem. I will tell you this. If you didn't mate the scope to the mount by polishing the mount with a 1" scope mount polishing bore and rubbing compound, you may need to do that first. Then use a bore sight tool to let you know where you need to look for problems. " saves ammo"

Fox we have a leupold Vari X-3 4.5 x 14 with the Boone & Crockett reticle it`s mounted on a Remington 700 .300 win mag .It is excellent ,clarity and brightness are great. My son dropped a doe with it last week (in Alabama ) at 396 yards. We sighted it in at 200 yds. It may be a little much for a muzzleloader but it is an awesome scope

we did look thru the Nikons at Gander Mtn in Ashland and it looked like they would work .They have rings below the horizontal crosshair. If you get down that way they are just before Richmond on I-95 You can test the scopes ,binoculars ,& pick up the guns. Better than having Bass Pro hand you one at a time and having to wait in line for that privledge . Other than not being able to get pistols or sporting tactical rifles (AR-15) in Va I prefer Gander over Bass Pro bigger selection than Dick`s
