Has anyone tried the Hornady SST Slugs? I hear they are pretty good. I know that Winchester has out a similar slug, but people are having trouble with their groups. The Hornady round is pretty hot at about 2000 fps. Basically the same bullet I shot out of my Encore. Just interested if anyone has tried them.

I have tried the Hornady SST out of my H&R 12ga. Could not get them to group as well as I liked so I continued with lightfields. However, I recently tried the Remington copper solid slugs and I got rifle like accuracy, which is a 1 inch group at 100 yds and a punched bull.
My brother shoots the Hornady SST's out of his 870 and I believe he puts a 2 to 3 inch group at 100 yards. He also knocked down an eight pointer on opening day with one round.

I've been hearing the Remington Copper solid's break into many small pieces and are found all through out the deer. Its a good thing, don't get me wrong but I would hate to bite down on one. Kinda like biting a lead pellet in squirrel meat or something.

I rarely shoot my slug gun anymore because I have nothing more accurate that my Encore but currently I shoot the copper solid's and have been for at least 3-4 years. Yes they do break up. They changed the sabot about three years ago so it is not as bad. Never the less they still put them down.

I tried 2 boxes (10 slugs) in my new Rossi 20 gauge slug gun, it was like playing duck-duck-goose with the bulls eye. Then I shot 3-4 Remington Premiere copper 250 Grain sabots, and was ready to hunt. I do not care for those Hornady SST, but, I have been into several local ammo retailers and every gun shop will sell you on them because they are the cheapest on the market AND... dealers get the biggest profit margin returns on the cheap loads. So, buy a few different kinds and shoot them all, you'll soon know what the best is for your gun.

I just tried the 250 gr SST In my CVA Mag Hunter today. I loaded them over 100 grains of 777. I printed three shot groups at 1/4" center to center at 50 yards. I was dead center and 1" high from the bull's eye. I recovered one of the slugs and two of the sabots. The slug was well mushroomed and was measured at .72. The sabots had kept thier wings and the base was right where it should be at about .502. My target was on a sheet of 1/2" T1-11. I recovered the slug from a clay mound on the back side of the target.
