Hey y'all,
I just got notified that my name was drawn for a lottery hunt I put in for down in VA. It's for deer and hogs, and only shotguns are allowed. I have an old Mossberg/New Haven 600AT in 12 gauge chambered for up to 3" shotshells. My buddies are using buckshot for their deer/hogs down here, but I think I'd feel better with slugs. There's something about a big chunk of lead that seems insanely effective to me. Anyways, what would y'all recommend as far as buckshot, or even slugs for a smoothbore shotgun? Any help is appreciated. Thanks. -- B

If they are using buckshot then i guess the range is pretty close. Slugs would be my choice, they are fairly accurate within 70 yards. I think outside there then you have to start doing some shooting to make sure you adjust for drop because it gets pretty bad out there.
My choice would be slugs. Don't have to pick shot out of anything and you save more meat.

I think I'll try both and see what shoots best outta my gun.

One of each. Slug than the next round buckshot then the next round slug, etc. Its kind of how I load my shotgun. I alternate lead slug then sabot slug then lead slug then sabot. I don't know why, just always have.
