I'm planning on going on a hog hunt in south carolina this summer. Never hunted them before. Im planning on shooting my 55 pound long bow , easton 2013 xx75's, and 100 grain magnus 2 blade broadheads. Do you think this will get the job done one a hog?

Shot placement. Only one I ever killed was with a 7mm Mag. My brother killed one with a knife, but the dogs had it pretty well occupied!

thanks i had heard a lot of other people talking about increasing arrow weight for hogs, but if it isn't neccesary i don't want to. It already took me a long time to find a set up that flew well.

I've seen hogs killed with a high powered Air rifle so its good shot placement. Where in SC are your going? I wanted to go this summer but I'll be on the beach not near the mountains. Good luck, I wish I had the accuracy to take any animal with a long bow. Can't wait to hear how you do!

Best hog populations are in low country, closer to beach than mountains. Francis Marion Nat'l Forest has them, but rules and regs and seasons make it hard to deal with. Hell Hole section is just off 95. Better off if you can find private property.

i'm planning on going at bostick plantation. Deer season there comes in august 15th so i might do a combo hunt for deer and hogs this summer before we go back to school.

I don't see why not. I think that setup could take out just about anything...it's all about the shot placement.

I've heard good and bad about Bostic; the last few years, seem to be tending more to bad. I worked the big Harrisburg show some years back and there was a guy carrying around a sign that said something to the effect of "Bostick sucks!Ask me how about my hunt!" He kept hanging around their two booths. A guy over near Millington (meat cutter) had hunted with them a few years back and had some pretty uncharitable things to say about them. But some folks are happy with them. Just be sure to do a few searches first, and ask around.

thanks for the advice. I haven't decided quite yet what to do. Me and a couple of my friends are sophmores in high school and don't have much to spend on a hunting trip. Were just looking for something affordable we could get around to doing in the summer. Also thinking about tioga in pennsylvania and wilderness hunting lodge in tennessee, but they are pretty expensive.

Summer bowfishing is fun. Sika deer hunting on the eastern shore is fun and free, but not till Sept. I wanted to go hog hunting till I saw the price tag. I'd rather save and double it to go bear hunting.

yea i think i might save the money and stick to shooting groundhogs, stumps, and working on my food plots and waterhole around here. i was already planning on trying sika this year so i'll probaly head over to blackwater sometime to scout.

back in mississippi i always used 50lb compound bow with full length arrows and 125grain thunderheads you dont have to worry as much on speed but they do have some armour under their skin. like a thin layer of cartilige

thanks for all the advice. guess it's time to start practicing. i'll probaly pick up a 3-d hog target since shot placement is obviously my number one priority. I'll let you know how it goes.

Vinnie, did you ever go on that hunt?? I am thinking of trying to round up a few guys to go on a hunt with Black River Plantations.. Anyone ever heard of them? They have a 3 day hunt that is reasonable and you can kill 3 hogs per man....
