Got out in some state lands yesterday evening hoping to find another to work on for the BP season. Came pretty close, only bugle I heard was 200 yards from me, he sounded off three different sequences around dark, but it was across a creek and no way to close on him. Wind is wrong today, but next two afternoons I think I'm going to try and work on this one. If he's using the same bedding area I may be able to traingulate on him in a few hunts.

Got out today, didn't find that one or even hear a bugle, but a very interesting day. Tide was wayyy up on the marshes, so I just paddled the kayak around some spoil piles, creek edges and muskrat houses all afternoon seeing what I could flush out. Had the 10 ga side by side percussion cap on my knees - nice to have two shots if needed Flushed two at 20 yard ranges, first was a doe (already filled the anterless tag) second, about a 1/4 mile later, I think was a stag, but never got a good look. Could hear it splooshing through the marsh a long way off as it ran. Jumped two more at a much farther distance later in the afternoon, and saw two more on the way out at dusk. What does all this mean?? It means that even sitting on my butt in a kayak I can see 6 more sika than Fox has ever seen from a treestand!!

Maybe you could put the kayak IN a tree?
Are you shooting buck out of the 10ga? I've got a pair of 12 BP SXSs that I've been fooling with for turkeys, and the thought has crossed my mind for "jump shooting" deer over there.

Some of the tides I've seen from that kayak I almost WAS in a tree!! Coastal flood watch today, one of the few times I've really wished for a Sunday hunt... No, I like BIG chunks of lead.

Mine's a Pedersoli from Cabelas. Got it 10-15 years ago from the Bargain Cave in the Nebraska store, it was on sale for $200. I think now the new price is over $800!

Dave, they were moving good yesterday evening. Saw 4 total myself. All spikes. Should be a good year next year. I put some miles on my hip waders scouting today though. I saw the ditches overrun with tide so I figured it would be a good day on the high ground.

Got out Christmas eve on the marsh to try him from a different angle. He didn't bugle until the last minute of shooting time, but it let me peg his bedding zone from a different angle. Know where I need to be next time I can get out, hoping I can get close enough without jumping him that he'll charge to the call and give me a shot...

I've got some places I hunt down that way, but that's not where the Scrambler's been parked! But I do have to get a less conspicuous vehicle, getting hard to hide in that old Jeep.

Tried him one more time the last few days of BP, jumped several does that stood and looked at me, of course, but never saw the stag. Set up on him for the last hour that evening, he was bugling within 100 yards, but across a creek and wouldn't come in close enough. Wind finally swung as it calmed at dark, heard him alarm chirp. Oh well, gotta have one to hunt next year...
