Thought I'd separate this thread from the whitetail one..
Got a hind yesterday evening at 7 yards. Saw a total of 5 & this was by 5:30. Man is it hard to track those things through the grass!!!!! She ended up about 120 yards from where I shot her & it took almost 3 hours, but I got her! No pics yet as I didn't get home until 11:45 & didn't even think about pics yesterday... Should get some up in a bit though.

Alright Frank! So what's that now, two years, two hunts, two sika? Maybe you should take Big Fox and give him a lesson.

Just a new guy here from the Eastern Shore. I just started hunting the sika's this year. Have been out three times. First a.m. hunt, saw a hind and calf, about 150 yds. in marsh. Second day, P.M. hunt, none seen. Third day was this past Friday, p.m. hunt. Wind was howling bad from NW, nearly blew me out of the Pine I was in. Saw first Hind at 5:30. Two more half-hour later. Had the fourth, a small calf walk 20 yds from me and the fifth come out around 6:30. No antlers seen. Had the largest Hind of the evening present a shot at 12 yds and I dropped her with a spine shot. I was soo excited to get one of those elusive sikas!! All hunts were in Fishing Bay public land locations. Looking to go over to Blackwater for the first time sometime next week to look for those large Stags I keep reading/hearing about. Anybody go down there on Sat.?? Any scouting reports?

Two comments come to mind. 1. - That's not much beard since Sep 15!!! Either you shaved or you DO have a babyface!! 2. Dang, you gotta be a good shot to hit one that small. Hee--hee!

Congrats, I went out for my first trip on Sat. evening. Didn't see any, but had 3 different stags bugle as I was walking out. There were definitely on the move on Sat. morning. Had to dodge 6 on my way to duck hunt. Was begining to think I made a mistake in choosing to go duck hunting instead.

She is not that small!!! How big is the average hind anyway??
Trimmed about 1/2 inch off of the beard last Friday - had a meeting at work, but that was within the rules.

cbass - my buddy that was with me heard a bugle in the middle of the marsh & about 5 minutes later saw a 6 point stag, but too far for the shot. I noticed a lot of trails through tall grass.

I think the average for hinds is about 40-45lbs field dressed.
