Men Arrested for Trying to Ride Ponies August 21, 2007 - 5:56pm
ASSATEAGUE ISLAND, Md. - Two highly intoxicated men from Ocean City were arrested over the weekend for trying to ride the wild ponies and tackle sika deer, Maryland Natural Resources Police say. Police say 33-year-old Thomas Chapman and 27-year-old Anthony Marchiano are charged with disorderly conduct. Chapman is also charged with attempting to feed, touch, tease, frighten or intentionally disturb wildlife in a state park.
Officers responded to the park about dawn on Saturday. Witnesses told police Chapman was naked and trying to ride the ponies and tackle the deer.
Police say he yelled profanities until officers arrested him.

What's funny, and disturbing , all at the same time, was the fact that he was NAKED! WHY was he trying to tackle them? ? On a related note, we've had an emu hanging around work the last week or so. A buddy said he'd take it, so we made a sort of cage out of pallets on a trailer. After TRYING to coral it, I grabbed it by the neck and pulled! They are STRONG and HEAVY,but it followed. (Insert all the Dave's choking his emu jokes I was hearing) All the way to the trailer, about 250 feet. Once it's feet hit the deck, a knee came up and about broke my wrist, and those velociraptor claws started flailing! But I was completely clothed! It's still there.

I had two emus. The first one died after it broke its leg being moved to a bigger enclosure. The second I had for a long time, but last year we were having a bad storm, maybe reminents of a hurricane. I came home from work to find a downed oak tree on my fence and the emu running around crazy in the pouring rain and wind. I coraled it back in the pen and it found the open part to the fence and ran out again. I chased it a mile back into the woods and tackled it. Literally, like a line backer. I layed on top of it while it was kicking and thrashing my legs. I held both legs together and the head under my armpit and tried to carry it but it was too strong. Instead of letting it go I started to choke it out but then decided to spare its life. It was so windy and the rain was coming down so hard I figured let it go and it could be a wild bird. Once I got off, it got up and was gone. I was bleeding and bruised and tired. (Right before I let it go I thought about seeing it while bowhunting and shooting it)
Two weeks later I hear of an old man who saw a huge turkey running in his field ten miles from my house. I assumed it was my bird. I called animal control and told them the bird escaped during the storm. They said it had been running through the town and they had chased it for three days before capturing it. It died from the stress of being captured (he said) I would have shot it, which I imagine is what happened. My son loved that big bird!
