It's kind of weird. The Federal part of the park you need to have all kinds of stuff (name on arrow, hunter number, veh tag and so on) but when I went down there on Saturday they told me that they had nothing to do with the state park hunts and had no info for me except to go find the sign in sheet. I found the sign in sheet in the first parking lot over the bridge. There was no one around and all I had to do was sign and hunt. Only three other people had signed in for the day so I had a pretty good pick of where I wanted to go. It felt a little weird gearing up with joggers and families walking by me. I called the information number on the sign-in sheet just to make sure I was in the right and the person that answered the phone didn't know much about it either??? She had a DNR officer contact me and he met me in 5 min. He knew very little about the whole thing as well, but told me that I was OK hunting where I did. While in the woods I could see a family with their child walk by only 60yd away so I went in a little deeper. Jumped up the hind and found a good spot to hunt till dark. I think next year will be good to get in there early if they still have that hunt open. The guy at the Federal part told me that about 100 deer had already been taken from the new area. Lets hope they open it back up for next year, because that is prob the best chance for taking a sika on Assateague.

I called the state section today, and was told about 30 sika have been taken.
Are you saying that 100 were taken off the Federal expanded zone? I thought it was 2 days ,archery only there.

I asked the guy at the ranger station how the hunting had been with the new Bow only section (the one whith the sign-in sheet) and he told me that 100 sika had been taken off there. There is a north part of the island that is also bow only, but that is part of the federal park. I have hunted that before (maybe he thought I was talking about that part) not sure.
