Thanks, HARDCORE for the congrats.
The morning started out pretty slow. All I saw were squirrels & trophy class mosquitos. I really didn't know that mosquito's could grow so large. Some of them were the size of wasps!!!!!! Then at about quarter to ten, I hat two stags run in from the thick underbrush - they appeared from nowhere & had already made my day. I determined which was the larger of the two & when I caught a glimpse of him through the thick growth, I sent my arrow flying. He was a mere 7 yards from me when I took the shot. Even at that range, I was a bit nervous as I had never drawn back on a sika before. It was a good hit & ran just 5 yards after the shot. MAN WAS IT EXCITING!!!!!!! I will be hunting the sika deer again in the near future.

Thanks,
Well, since the meat is so tasty & those things are so small, I think I am going to go out & try to get another one this year. It sure was exciting & something I would like to do again.

I think it's one of each...Stag&Cow..maybe two cow? Correct, one stag and one cow in each weapon season. If you go early Blackpowder season you're only allowed one during that three day October segment, gotta wait until late BP season to take the second. Be careful on cows, too. ANY visible antler on sika counts as a stag, not the 3" rule like on whitetails.

I got a cow last year out in Blackwater too. It was also my first. It was possibly one of the best shots of my life - jumped her up in the marsh but the grasses were so tall I couldn't see her. Basically, I put the beed on the sound and when she jumped (above the reeds) I had a quartering away shot. The trusty Mossberg pump got er' done!
Had the hide tanned out.....looks pretty cool hanging on the wall. I'll post pics soon.

Couple of thoughts hit me looking at this again - 1. Dang, after all winter it seems strange to see green leaves!! 2. I'm ready for fall, do we really have to go through a hot, humid summer to get to it?? 3. What did you do Deer Hunter, take along a comb and hairdryer?!?! I've never seen such a dry, pretty sika!! Every one I kill is muddy and wet and nasty by the time I get back to the truck. 4. When do you get the mount back?
