Well, it's been a while since I've been online so I'm finally getting around to posting this story.
So, I was hunting the Saturday before Christmas over in Cambridge and happened to shoot my first banded bird. A hen mallard released from Middleville. I was so pumped about it. We had a fairly decent hunt killing about 5 mallards and a couple Gadwall total.
The following Friday I was back over in Cambridge and my buddy Tim and I were hunting the same area. I was in a TDB on the left of the spread, and he on the right. Well, usually courtesy would be to take the birds on the left for me and right for Tim. We had four mallards come in, and for some odd reason, I started on the right.......Wham, the bird farthest to the right dropped, Wham, the secon from the right dropped, Wham the third from the right dropped!!!! I was so pumped! I nailed all three birds, two greenheads and a hen. Of course the second bird I shot was a federally banded hen, so Tim was giving me hell about that being his bird.
He said, Damn, everytime I got on a bird it fell. I don't know how I managed to drop three with three, but it was sweet, and to have one of the birds be federally banded was only icing on the cake!
So basicallly, now, i'm in search of a beautiful greenhead to complete that mount with the banded hen.
So.....in conclusion, just thought it was kind of crazy to shoot my first two banded birds less than a week apart!
Gotta love that band number! haha
