I was out on my buddy's boat today testing a new prop & there were still quite a few bluebill and buffellhead, though not near as many as there were about 3 weeks ago though. I'm about ready to start fishing too!

I've still got loads of ruddies and a few 'bills, but almost all the migrant geese are gone, just the local Canadas left now. Stupid mute swan are back in the cove, too.

Was going through the woods today looking for sheds and the dog and I came out on some spoil piles by our old marsh pond - got within 30 feet of probably 2 dozen green wing teal! Drakes were gorgeous, all full plumage.

Happens every spring, not sure what you're talking about Deer Hunter??? Was kayaking today in the Fishing Bay marshes, LOADS of green wing teal everywhere, jumped 'em around every bend.

Not sure where my mind was there. I thought you meant that they were dead?? I re-read your post & my response made no sense. Think I saw the word "piles" & just assumed dead ducks. oops

That's okay, I've heard the stress of the working world can mess with a fella's mind.

You guys aren't kidding about heading North. Too bad these ducks aren't around during the season. I have seen farm ponds over the last 2-3 weeks that are lucky to hold a few geese loaded with mallards and bluebills. Normal situations during the season you would never see the old bluebill on farm ponds a few miles away from big water. Looks like the prairie pothole region.

Hopefully the weather will cooperate.....they will be back next year!!!!!!!!! The good news is we know there are still some around. I walked out back tonight and heard a bunch of mallards yackin on the river, havnt heard that in a while. I just gave em a salute and said c-ya next year.

Coot, are they bluebills or ringnecks? I've seen ponds up that way with tons of ringnecks on them as they head north, coming back from Florida and points south. Freshwater diver that resembles the 'bills. Look for the white ring around the bill.
