It's a few days away, the turkey hunting that is, but I figured we might as well start this now so there's a place to put the tales of woe and misery.

He's a pretty good shot on waterfowl. The turkey may be a little too easy - hope he doesn't get overconfident & miss.

I just hope he stays calm enough to remember where the safety and trigger are on the gun! Are you going to help him try this season, too, or have you given up on him and passed him off to me?

If I had friday off I would love nothing more than to film your hunt! I am even good at editing and we can make it look like you got him with one shot instead of three!!

Fox I have no doubt you'll connect! As long as osprey can call them in close like he did on saturday, you'll be withdrawling some $$$ for the taxidermist. BUCKWILD FOX!

Hmmm, rubbing giant mulies in his face, now there's an idea. If only I knew somebody with a wall full of big, bow killed mule deer bucks...

I guess first strike before we even start is the weather. Picked the day a month ago and wouldn't you know it's the only day in the whole first week with rain forecast?

I am very sad to report that there is really not much of a story. We heard a few gobbling, actually had the place to ourselves today, got close to them, but they went the other way when they came off the roost. We repositioned once on some that sounded off to the side, and they gobbled one more time, but then not a peep the rest of the morning. Switched properties and set up North Dakota Bob for his first day in the field, sat over that place for over an hour, but again nothing (except the three hens we saw on the road just before that spot). Ohh, Fox does have an interesting new call, he hit it a few times on that second setup, sort of a raspy SCCCNNNNNXXXKKK type sound. Amazing he can do it so well with his eyes closed and chin on his chest. The guy does have dedication - drove down last night and slept in a minivan in Wawa parking lot all night!!! I was hoping at least for a cop and a tow truck on that part to make it interesting, but no such luck. ;D Now, if things hold true, tomorrow I'll be covered up in birds and kill a Tom with a ground dragging beard, sort of a play on the shoulda been here yesterday thing!
