Sent it in with the regular selection, to include an application for my older son Dylan to join in the hunt. Also put in for the early Muzzy season. If it gets drawn it should be fun..

I got everything, but was permit #5. Bartman was #6 and got his. My one buddy was #30 and heard his filled the last spot where we normally hunt for shotgun.
Also heard a rumor it's going to a true lottery next year, that will REALLY screw things up! I'm just going to hunt it like a mad dog this year, may go downhill after this season from the way it's looking...

True lottery? Meaning not first come first serve?
I was permit 148 & mailed it back morning after it came in. Maybe you guys over there closer have an advantage.

Might be the last year I bother. Seems to get crappier with the changes every year and more yahoo's pouring in.
Got a different place for shotgun and a section I have never been in for the early muzzle loader. Might be worth a shot but I need to get over there and hang a stand for my son to hunt too. Not ready for a climber yet.
Should be interesting. Might just stay on the the lease and see what happens.

My experience with early ML was a one time deal (until this year). There were more yahoo's than you could imagine. I pulled into parking lot when it was supposed to "open", and there were 30 trucks already there.

My wife mailed mine in (from the Western Shore) while I was in Africa. I agree though I think the changes aren't for the better. I'm going to miss the good ole days of hunting that one section. Fox, let me know what section you got. I may be able to fill you in.

Well, decent report from the crew in our normal section. Few yahoos coming in at the last minutes before shooting light, flashing lights everywhere and stomping across all the deer trails, as seems to be normal down in Blackwater. Deer everywhere before legal light, not so much after. Skeeters were horrible! My buddy Snake had never heard the dawn humm across the marshes, he thought it was a plane in the distance! He got a spike and a hind, I missed a quick shot at a smaller stag cruising through a gap in the brush, Bart got a hind.
Hot hot hot!! I stayed until 1pm then couldn't take the 82 degrees any more. Sitting here tonight I realize I got sunburn on my face!!!

Well after shotgun quota the consensus seems to be that "it was good while it lasted." Worst I've ever seen it the normal section, no deer seen or heard, no sign, only two sets of recent tracks on the marsh we hunted. I think next year I'm going to back to just the archery permit for early season, maybe the muzzleloader hunts, but it hardly seems worth it for the rest anymore...

I wasn't there, but in my section, no sightings or shots. I think the new regulations did the opposite of what they were supposed to do. Going to miss the hunt.

It was certainly slow. The check station on opening day of shotgun was said to be very slow, and on the Monday I was there at noon and they were just checking in deer # THREE for the day - for the whole Refuge!
