So my buddy Stoner and I talked about going hunting today last week. Made plans to get together after work. Of course this week the weather went to crap and it rained all day. We talked on the phone and both of us agreed if it stopped raining by the time we got off we were going to head out in the deer woods. We knew the deer would be on the move since it rained so hard all day and boy were we right. We met up at the hunting grounds with a plan in place. I took my climber and Jerry would hunt his hang on stand. Stoner had an idea for me to try a spot and we head out. We are not 100 yards in the woods and we spook deer. We just knew this night would be great. I get set up in my climber and of course drop my bag. Great I thought but came up with an idea to hook it with my pull up rope that worked great. It is not long and I see deer moving through in my direction. A small doe and a small buck feeding on acorns. I watch them for 10 minutes or so and they ease off. I look over and to my delight I see a nice slick head making her way into a shooting lane. I get into position for a shot and when she steps out and stops I let the T/C Omega do its thing. The smoke clears and she is down. To my amazement I see a small buck walk right over to her and start checking her out as if she just laid down. I cannot believe my eyes as he just wanders around the down deer and has no idea I am there. I reload my rifle and continue to watch this buck milling around the deer. I look to my left and her comes 3 more does. I get into position and when they step into a clearing I again let the smoke fly. Again the smoke clears and I begin to reload only to notice the buck has not left and is still in the same spot a near 60 yards from me. I get reloaded and again see does heading my way. I figure what the heck and again take a nice doe when in the shooting lane. At this point I am fairly confident I have 3 deer down and I begin to make my way down the tree. The buck never leaves. I basically had to run him off. I couldn't believe it. I take my stand and rifle to the truck and retrieved deer sled. Once the deer have been field dressed I drag them to the truck and wait for Stoner to head out at dark. This was one of my more enjoyable hunts with the success I had. But to share it with a good friend like Gerald makes it that much better.. Thanks Stoner for all you do... You are quite the hunter and an even better friend....
