Finally a confirmed sika sighting at my place!!! My uncle, who knows what they look like, saw one last week by the mailbox. It jumped up the side of the road and crossed into my woods toward my first deer stand. Hopefully it's the beginning of something. He thought it was a hind, maybe she'll drop a fawn here.

Cool, just let me know what tree to put my stand in.

A big stag would get shot, but any other sika gets a pass here until they build up a population on the Neck.

Crazy how they are not down there.. Such a fickle animal.. I was cutting grass the other day on the lease and had 4 pop out 30 yards from me. One pretty good sized stag sprouting antlers, the other 3 looked to be hinds..

I SAW HER!!!!!!!!!!!! I SAW HER!!!!!!!!!!! Was on the tractor today tilling some new ground to prep for fall plots and a deer ran across 30 yards in front of me. In slow motion my first thought was "look at that fawn that jumped out of the grass". Then "no, that's too big to be this year's deer." Then "it must be a late drop from last year." But then "wait, that deer has spots. And a white rump. IT'S THE SIKA!!!" She hung in the next grass strip for 20 minutes while I made pass after pass 20 yards from her with the tractor and tiller. From the way she acted I'm pretty sure she had a fawn hid there, and she may have bedded there with it because I never saw her leave. Her name is Princess, because that's what she'll be treated like as long as she stays here on my place!!!!

VERY NICE! I can't imagine what I'd do if I had one on my property. Build it a barn to sleep in?

I may go sing her soft lullabies at night and tell her "Don't worry little sika, I'll never let that big hungry Foxquatch anywhere near you".

Your message sounded more like you had shot a giant stag. Good news is that if she had fawned there had to be a stag somewhere around those parts.

More likely she was bred 20 miles away in the fall and moved in here for the season. But a fawn born here may imprint and call the place home, maybe they'll bring some friends along too!

Andy when you're at Blackwater and they walk under your tree, don't shoot them! Jump down and grab them, like some sorta giant ninja squirrel!!

We still need them alive if we wanted to take one home. Not sure a sika could stand fox jumping on its back from 10 plus feet.
