These dang deer are getting way to smart. I've got one little spot I hunt where I run a feeder, a backyard of some friends where they want deer killed becuase they eat all their yard plants. Great little funnel, but gotta have something to bring them out of the surrounding thickets while it's still daylight. Anyway, the feeder I run holds 200lbs of corn and will last 2-3 weeks at the rate I have it set. Except the deer have learned to reach up and lick corn off the spinner plate! Have plenty of pics and sightings of them doing it, so they've known how for some time. With the cold weather and a lack of field crops around that area this year they must be standing there all night licking corn off it - 200lbs gone in FOUR NIGHTS!!! I'm going to have to deer proof my deer feeder.

HAHAHAHA the feeder I have in my backyard has a nightly raccoon visiting it.. 100's of pics of him sitting on it and spinning the corn out for an hour a night.. The squirrels clean up what he doesn't get. I may have to go night vision on him to get him.. He is slick but the deer thing makes me laugh.. PARTY ALL NIGHT.. Osprey is providing the snacks...

Sounds like you need to raise it up a little higher. Whenever I put up a feeder, I like to get it pretty high up to spread the corn further as well.

When I use a feeder, I leave a 6 foot stepladder somewhere nearby.

I'm already using a 6 foot ladder to fill it, if I raise it another set of leg additions I'll need a 10 foot ladder! I've already taken the best buck I had on camera down there and two does, I think I'll just put what's left on a forced hunger strike until next fall...

That is a funny story! I am actually looking into getting a feeder. Can anyone give me a suggestion on what to get? I am lookng for something that holds about 200 lb and I can set how much is kicked out and at what times. Thanks in advance!

Brett, just saw this. Mine are $99 walmart specials, but they have timers and you can set how long they spin to control how much corn you put out. At least that's how it's SUPPOSED to work!

And they'll hold exactly 2 100lb bags of corn! Mine have lasted 5-6 years so far, although I normally start with new rechargable batteries each season.
