Going to try something a bit different. I have one buck that's showed up here that I'm after and I'd really like to have a crack at him early in the season before all the neighbors get after him. Have worked up a 1/3 acre plot, tucked along a thick woods, where I'm going to plant beans two weeks before the bow season opens. Thinking they'll sprout with a flush of tender young growth, pull him in and give me a chance. Plot is set for the south winds we get early, with plenty of tall switchgrass around it I can hide in. They planted everything around me in late beens a couple weeks ago, by September 6 I'm figuring they should be tall and course enough that the deer will want something more tender. I don't normally fool with beans, as the combination of salt ground and plenty of deer means they never get over 3" tall or produce anything, but I should be able to get enough vegetation to make this work. Best laid plans and all, but hoping...

Hope it works out for you!
Guess you'll be doing the rain dance for the two weeks prior to the season.

So how big is he? You can't drop a line like that and not elaborate.
Hopefully your plan will come together. Good luck with him

Planted and fertilized on Monday, ahead of the 2" of rain we were supposed to get Tuesday. Only got .02" though, so who knows how this will turn out...

Yea - yesterday was a bummer. Was looking forward to the rain. Looks like this weekend now.
Monday I started getting my flowerbed ready for turnips! It's about a 30 yard circle in my yard & about the best thing I could come up with to plant in there. Plus now there actually be yellow flowers there in the spring. ;D

I've had them as a cover crop in my garden the last two years. Great for the soil, pretty in the spring and the tops are great food for the chickens all winter!
