My buddy "bowhunterbob" and I decided to bow hunt opening day. We had no luck at our first spot so we decided to make a move to another property. We walked down the edge of the property and made some calls. We didn't her aything so we decided to head back to the truck and drive to the other side where we could access public land. Before we got to the truck we decided to yelp with my mouth call. We got an answer and decided where to set up. I got Bobby ready and very quickly set up the full strut and hen based on where he was set up. I got set with the hopes of their being two birds but when I called he gobbled and I knew there was just one. I shut up but when the Tom turned the corner and saw the decoys he blasted off with a very loud and aggressive gobble. He came in fullstrut and at 12 yards Bobby let his arrow loose! Smack down!

I could guide for a living if I had more prime properties. Right now I think I have been at the right place at the right time!

Congrats once again Brett and congrats to your buddy for getting it done with bow. That's a major accomplishment! Slow was an understatement as to how my day started yesterday. Couldn't get any slower. Heard zero birds gobble while on the roost, zero birds all morning and got rained on a few times. Was not fun. Thought about just going in to work but just wasn't interested in giving up knowing there has been a good amount of birds on the property this year. At around 1030 when the rain quit i began to ease up on a few known hot spots, i would call a few times and sit for about 15-20 mins at a time and slowly move to the next spot. At 11:30 I had one more spot in mind so I crept in, called and knelt down. Nothing. About 3 mins passes when i hear a gunshot on the neighboring property followed by a gobble within 50 yards of me! Finally!! A gobble! A shock gobble, but I will take it! Thank God he gobbled because he was heading directly to me and i was facing the opposite direction. I quickly spun around and got ready. Next thing i see if a big bluehead trying to find the hen that he thought was there. Instead he found me pointing the barrel at his face at about 30 yards and that's where the Browning Gold 10gauge put him down. As my bird was flopping around I noticed there was another big Tom with him that got out of town real fast! Turkey weighed in at 21.5lbs, Doube beard; 9.5" and 6" and had spurs of 1-1/4" and 1". Made me think of the old saying "Good things come to those who wait". Couldn't have been suited any better to my situation! Worked hard for this one and glad i stuck with it. Luck was definitely on my side today! Almost scored on another big Tom this morning. I believe he was the other turkey from yesterday because he sure was cautious. He would not gobble, would not strut and circled my setup at 80-100 yards and woud not get any closer. He stayed for a few minutes and disappeared. Hope to see him again....he has one hell of a long beard!! Almost everyone i talked to scored either yesterday or today.

The morning started with me 300yards into the woods. I heard at least two gobbling on roost about 200yards off so I sat down and set up. As they flew down the goobles got softer so I figure those birds headed off in another direction. As soon as I was sure I should have went deeper and more to the right I look over my should and from the left there is a big Tom attacking my decoy, he had a hen with him. He soon got away over the hill I had the decoys on. Not more then 30secs went by and two more Toms came running in and at abot 50yards I put the smack down on the one below. 24lbs, 11.5 beard and 1 1/4 spurs. Was home and cleaned up by 730AM.

Jbird- THat is a great bird and a classic example of what patience truly means to a hunter. Some of my friends give up too easily but I am a stay in the woods type of guy. Chocolab- Your story is how I wish all hunts could go! That is an awesome bird! I hope that you get to bag your next one just as quick!
