Had a great weekend on the river.
Plenty of can's and bluebills, with a few ringnecks, and even a black duck and a woodduck sprinkled in.

Got into the redheads today. THOSE are going to be picked, I LOVE to eat roasted redheads, may be my favorite meal, even better than sika backstraps.

Were there a lot of them? A buddy got one on Saturday - he picked it out from a group of can's.
Don't normally see that many, at least I don't.

We had 3 come in and 3 stayed. Don't see a lot of them even on the best years, but it's always a nice bonus when they do show up. Only bluebills today, and not many of them moving in the wind and cold. At least we still had open water to get out. Stayed until 9 when my Uncle's fingers almost froze off, my gun was frozen shut and the dog was ready to quit, then went and had breakfast at the local store next to their woodstove. Still better than working!

Yea - I'm sitting here at work wishing I was out there.
One more trip for me this Saturday.

Just because they're so pretty... If this wind keeps up like this tonight I think it'll stay open water here and I'll still be able to go again tomorrow.

Certainly are pretty.
Hoping it stays open for me to get out on Saturday. Good luck to you.

Tomorrow's it. Hope everyone who wants to can get out.
Osprey, you should have been spending your day knocking a hole in the ice!

I've tried that in years past, but doesn't do much good here. When it freezes all the way across and down the river they just move out until it opens up again. I'll just hunt geese until that ends...
