I had two different people tell me this morning that a man was on the news today posing with another 80+lb record blue catfish caught in Fort Washington on the Potomac yesterday. Has anyone heard this story or know where I can find a link?

I did a quick search - looks like DNR may have confirmed the one from February today. Didn't see anything new.
I'll take care of that next week! ;D ;D ;D

After researching a little bit myself I came to the same conclusion. I showed a pic of the guy and fish from the DNR page and my buddy said it was the same guy that was on the news this morning. So like you said they probably just waited to televise the story once it was confirmed.

It was the same one. Shaun Wetzel is the angler.

On a side note, one record breaker had his catch revoked and facing criminal charges. In field & stream online today, the record bass for Arkansas was revoked after it was found out the guy bought his license 3 hours after he caught the fish. Actually I think he said he had someone else buy it while they were waiting for the results. Hmmm?

Did you guys read the whole press release from DNR on that? They are saying the blue cats are an invasive species and they want to get rid of them.

Also read that after 2012 if you catch a potential record fish that it will not be considered unless it is killed. No more record fish being released unless the angler simply chooses not to enter his/her fish. I think they believe the cats are going to take over the Potomac.

I don't think I'll rush out to help exterminate the last blue cat, at least not until I can have a side dish of Assateague pony with the following meal.
