So I was coming in my lane today late morning, walking in after a nice 6 mile run, and I hear my pup Puck barking in his pen. Odd, because he rarely ever barks. Must be a heron or something in the yard, thinks I. As I get closer to the house he really starts barking, growling and carrying on. When I get to his kennel there's a skunk in there with him, going round and round. Oh crap. The skunk runs into his dog house as I open the gate and get the dog out, then the skunk chases us both into my house. Unfortunatly for Mr Skunk I keep a loaded shogun by the door, so he's soon dispatched. Sure he had rabies, no other reason for those actions, especially at nearly mid-day. Spent the rest of my day running to the vets for a booster shot for Puck, who luckily didn't have any bites or cut marks we could see, washing the dog, bleaching the kennel, etc. I hate a @%#$@^& Skunk!!

Yup, he got sprayed but good. Stunk to high heaven. Baking soda and peroxide will take it away Use a dash of liquid soap too- acts as a surfactant. Also, mix and use right away, doesn't store at all. Might take a few times too. (I been sprayed more times than I care to recall) PART of the reason they call me Stinky) ;D

That's awesome Dave! I've always been a big supporter of the Senior Olympics! ;D (Myself, I figure you're only born with X amount of energy. Why use it up working out?)

Now Dave, you know it's the Special Olympics, not the seniors!
The peroxide mix was going to be my next try, but found some other stuff that works. One recommendation was Listerine mouth wash. Cheap, but didn't take away much of the odor. Also read that Technu, a poison ivy/oak medicine is good for skunk scent, too, but haven't tried that yet. Did get a bottle of skunk deodorizer for pets at the local store, cheaper than the ingredients for the peroxide mix and it's worked pretty good! Can only get a whiff if I lean in close to the dog and sniff.
I will say I'm not much of a believer in scent removing soap for hunters now. Tried that on the dog first and it didn't do a dam thing.

I never much believed in the "scent free" soap either... Good luck getting that last bit of smell out.

Baking soda/peroxide/dawn is the only thing that works. May have to use it several times.
Ask me. I know only too well.
Osprey, you realize that was a whole $3 you blew up with the shotgun ? Lol.

Heck, I'd pay $5 to shoot one now just because I hate them!
I used a bottle of Nature's Miracle Skunk Odor Remover, worked pretty well. Only the faintest hint of odor when he's wet now. Easy to use, too, just put it on the dog and let it dry, enzymes destroy the odor molecules. I'll be keeping a bottle of that handy from now on.
