I'm looking at getting a bow and I'd like to go traditional and get a recurve.
That being said, any thoughts on a good bow shop to visit in the southern maryland area and why?
I had heard (and fox and brett confirmed) that Kim down at the Tree Stand shut down, so I was thinking of visiting 3 J's.
Any others out there? Pros? Cons?
Just interested in others experiences out there.... thanks!

Mike,
There is a pro shop on route 4 in Calvert. I have never been there but I heard it is very nice! 3J's is awesome! My friend went to 3J's and said their customer service was way better than any where else! Good luck!

I hunt with a longbow. I suggest you stay around 45 pounds ( I'm 6'5" 275 and I shoot 45 pounds) it's all you need, along with a heavy enough arrow, sharp BH and proper shot placement to kill most anything you'll come across. If your under 6'0 you can pretty much shoot any length bow, if your over 6'0 you might want to look at a 60-62" bow, if your taller the longer bow will be more comfortable generaly speaking. I shoot a 66" bow from a Lone Wold Sit and climb. I recommend shooting a few bows before you decide because hi vs low wrist grip, grip size and other things are going to be factors. If you get to Calvert County and want to shoot let me know.

The guys at 3J's were great this past Saturday. Went in and had them give my Mathews and my crossbow a once over. said everthing looks good. Bought a few little knick knacks and had them install a new peep sight on my bow. very nice guys and I even went out and sighted in my bow while I was there on their range outside. very nice and very reasonably priced. Since Kim's Tree Stand closed these are the guys I am going to use from now on. I highly recommend their great service and staff.

Ditto on that Andy! I think 3 J's is the place to go in SoMD. The customer service was great and they didn't sugarcoat things. If they didn't know the answer, they'd say so rather than make something up. They've known Kim for years and she actually helped them get up and running. Great shop to go too and they take their time with you.
I'm going to be up in the Baltimore area Thursday, so I thought I'd drop in and check out Macrotech. I'll let you know how that goes Brett.

Well guys.... I got it! After scouring the shops in the area, I ended up getting a handmade longbow from Kimsha Archery in Charlotte Hall. Tom Parsons is a traditional genius! It was narrowed down to this and a take down hybrid longbow. But I choose this one. I got a dozen arrows to go with it and all the trimmings...man does this thing fly! Attachments:
