I thought we might have mulled this over once last year, but i'll bring it off the back burner since spring is here and the seasons are coming to an end.
What is the consensus for getting everyone together for a buckwildadventures picnic one Saturday??
I was thinking a weekend in early June after turkey season and memorial day are over? Perhaps Gilbert Run to get the families and kids out too for some fishing and games? Big Fox can pull everyone around in a paddle boat...lol! ;-)
Anyhow, just a thought... we could make it a potluck and probably get a beer permit from the county if need be.

Cool. Lets start setting it up then and getting some numbers. There's hundreds of folks on this forum but i doubt everyone makes it and june will be here before we know it. Date: June 4th or June 11th? time: ?? pavillion: www.charlescounty.org/pf/parks_rec/parks/pavillionrental.jspI'm thinking brookside, amphitheater or dockside depending on number of folks and they do have a beer permit available. Food and drink: everyone bring a dish and soda? I'll call the park next week when I get back and check on how the rental is done and the beer permit (if it's byob or what). we can figure out covering rental prices later. Should be a good time!

Sounds like a great idea! Think my dance card is filled those dates (4H Spring livestock show and DNR youth event ) but will swing by if I can.

figure out what it costs to rent a pavillion and if it is to bad we can always just show up and grab the picnic table by the play ground. me and you could get there early Mike and put those on lock down. I have a feeling that renting a place may turn into a pain.

You know Smallwood State Park has a private pavillion that is cheap to rent, private bathrooms, 2 big grills just outside roof cover. We have had several parties there for our children and friends children. The best part is the kids can come too cause there's a huge playground (private), huge sand volleyball pit, plenty of room for just about anything you wanna do... Too many transits at Gilbert Run!! Lots of chairs and tables under the pavillion too. Just an idea.

Alright folks, I called and got some numbers.
Smallwood State Park:
- 3 pavillions. One holds 50 people, the other 75, and one holds 100 people. The pavillion that holds 100 people is only available on June 11th. The rest are all available the 4th or the 11th.
- Price: $21.75 + service charge*/day (50 person capacity) ($1.23/person) $71.75 + service charge*/day (75 person capacity) ($1.49/person) $96.75 + service charge*/day (100 person capacity) ($1.36/person)
Service charge is $5 for the reservation. There is a Day Use Service Charge (gate fee): Weekends and Holidays April-October $3/person
Beer permit is $35 (one time).
Gilbert Run:
Largest pavilion; accommodates groups up to 400; $250/day; Beer permit - $25 additional cost. *50% Gate Fee discount (must be paid in lump sum at end of day). (65 cents/person)
Large pavilion; accommodates 250 people; $150/day; Beer permit available - $25 additional cost. *50% Gate Fee discount (must be paid in lump sum at end of day). (70 cents/person)
Medium size pavilion; accommodates 150 people; $100/day; Beer permit available - $25 additional cost. (83 cents/person)
3 Regular size pavilions; accommodate up to 50 people; $75/day. ($1.50/person)
The gate entrance fee is $4 per vehicle. With the first two pavilions this drops to $2/vehicle.
_____ I put the per person price at the end of each number based on the price and if the max number of people show up.
So, let's pick a date and place and figure out what we want to do.
If we choose Smallwood then I say the 100 person pavillion on the 11th.
If Gilbert run then lets' go with the large or medium pavillion for either the 4th or 11th.
As for beer there, we can get kegs or BYOB with the permit. We can figure that out along with times later.

Just my thoughts but I do not see 250 people showing up. You may want to get one of the smaller places and just accomadate from there. I am good with either location though.

I think the smallest venue would work.

I like the June dates so when a decision is made as to where let me know ASAP so I can get a hold of the wife's calendar! I might be able to get some corn hole boards and bags for a game. I can bring sproting equipment and I am an experienced griller! I will help as needed! I have wife and 3 kids in my family. 5 total!

Alright, we have a date and place set for a Buckwild forum BBQ. Bought and paid for today by yours truly.
Date: June 4th
Place: Smallwood State Park - Pavilion 1.
Capacity is 50 people at the pavilion. Parking at the pavilion is 15 cars. Overflow parking is available.
$3 entry fee per person to the park that day.
It was $62 to reserve it. This is $21.75 for the reservation. $5 processing fee and $35 for an alcohol permit. (We can split the costs later when we see how many folks are coming)
Regarding the alcohol permit, folks can bring their own beers and consume them in the pavilion.
Now we just gotta pick a time... we got the pavilion from 7am till closing.
Let's get it done....
