Saturday morning is a day I will never forget. It didn’t start out to good but ended great. Sorry this will be a little long but I have to go into details. I had a very busy week at work and Friday night I was very tired. Well I fell asleep on the couch still wearing the hunting clothes I had on after hunting Friday evening. Well luckily the alarm was still set for work so I woke up, but it was about 20 minutes later than I planned. So I get up and decide since I am running late I am not even going to change my hunting clothes, I know it’s nasty but it worked. Any way I go into the woods and jump a deer, sounds heavy not the normal running sound a yearling makes. So I decide since I am running late I will back out and hunt this one particular spot I had been talking about hunting for a while now, same area just not as deep in the woods. So I find a tree, make way too much noise setting the stand up, then start climbing and there is a limb 8 feet up so I had to saw it off, more noise. Finally in the tree and after 15 minutes I hear something so I stand up, by doing so I get busted by 3 does that were standing behind me which snort and run in the woods. I sit back down wondering if I will ever see anything else the rest of the morning because of everything I had done wrong to this point. Maybe 15 minutes later a limb snaps and here he comes. I stand up and grab my bow, he stops in some Holly Trees for about a minute. He walks out and has no idea I am there, autopilot takes over and I stop him at 20 yards, the rage connects behind the shoulder and comes out through the heart. He ran 20 yards and stops at first I thought I missed before I could say the first cuss word he starts stumbling and down he goes. I have heard a lot of bad things on here lately about Rage broad heads but this is the 4th deer I have killed with them and all 4 have fell within eye sight of where I shot them. He has lost a lot of weight since I saw him in September but his rack is still the same as back then. If you count the points over an inch he has 18. Enjoy!!!
After this I sometimes wonder if we take hunting to serious and go out of our way to make sure everything is exactly as we want it to often. Maybe every once in a while we should sleep in our hunting clothes and just go in some random tree 20 minutes later than you had planned.
