Got my stuff all out and ready to get my boy Dylan out again. He is super excited to hopefully get a "bigger Buck" this time. I told him that it doesn't always happen like that but he is unshakeable. I can't freaking wait.. This is like christmas for me..

Well I had plans to take my son to Charles Co Sat , but with it being a 2hr ride and his football team making it to the championship game that wont happen. I dont have any gun spots so I had to do some fast thinking. I called up a guy who has a outfitter service in Cecil Co. He said he had a spot open...$175 for half a day because of the game its on...Buck has to be 16in wide or better...but know how grateful my son is he will be happy with a doe...good luck guys,...

Heading out behind the house in the AM then off to soccer and maybe hook up with Jerry in the evening depending on the deer movement behind the house. BUCK BOMBS will be EXPLODING EVERYWHERE good luck all

How old does the young one have to be and do they have to have license and everything? In my part of PA you can be the one that shoots but you have to have a kid of 5 or older.

Brett,
Must be 16 or younger, appropriate license, and be accompanied by a licensed, unarmed adult 21 or older.

Yup, put those kids through Hunters safety, get their license (which is pretty cheap considering what adults have to pay) and get them out there in the woods. I know I would not trade the memory I had with my son on his first deer this year during muzzle loader, now I just want to get out and hunt with him as much as possible.. I would like to see if I can get him on a deer WAY bigger than anything I have ever had the chance to get. I have a few mounted that are not monsters but each one has a special place in my heart and memory, whether it was my first decent buck I shot here in MD when my dad was in town hunting with me or the "Austin Buck" I shot on MUDDUCKS old farm with my 3 year old in tow. Both have special places in memory and now I cannot wait to share in making those memories with my boys. I just wish there were more kids out there that were interested in the outdoors instead of sitting on their butts and playing video games. I can't even get the neighborhood kids to rake my damn leaves for money..

Well how did everybody do? Not much moving here, and could only hunt the morning. Spooked one doe close behind around 8:30 when he dropped his binocs, that was it.

Nothing to report here. Of course, heading into work this am, in the dark, deer EVERYWHERE! Didn't realize it was a hunting Sunday until I saw trucks parked in the usual haunts.

my boy got his first gun kill saturday , a small doe he shot at about 100 yards with my t/c oncore pro hunter , we seen 4 deer walking on the side of a hill and he tried for 10 minutes to get a rest but the log we had set up for him to shoot off of was to low to shoot up hill, we were planing on the deer coming on flat land to a acorn flat, anyway myself , when we finaly got his rest set up the and he found the deer in the scope something spooked them and they ran , at this time tank was like dad i can hit it,, i said hit what? he said the deer i said they are gone buddy , nope he said i see it . so i turn to my dad and give the (what the heck is he looking at looK) and my dad says no i dont see them any more but he insisted he could see her licking her hind so i said well put it behind the shoulder and do what you do ,, 5 seconds later booom and i here the deer crashing down the hill , we jumped up and fist pumped like champs for about 30 seconds and we notice the hit was not a great one and he had to put another in her , he was kind of sad that it did not die right away and he had to shoot it again , but he helped us dress the deer and drag it to the house , now he has his (jerky deer ) and he is happy, i will post a pic of him in a few..

First off congratulations to all the kids that hooked up this weekend and to the proud dads that made it happen. Youth day is great. For the last few weeks I have working on setting up a go to spot for my 8 year old son Eric for his first deer hunt. The preperation has been fun and thats all we have been talking about for weeks now. So Saturday morning arrives, my son pops right out of bed, get dressed and off we go. Soon as we get in the woods deer go everywhere and the remainder of our morning basically went just that way. We had multiple encounters with a massive 9pt and a beauty of an 8pt and a few other does that simply were not cooperating and would not give us a good shot. My son took it well and never got down or upset. I was going crazy inside. Two big mature bucks, multiple encounters, first deer hunt ever....I could'nt believe it! He hung in there and remained optimistic. He said he wanted to hunt until lunchtime which was fine with me. I was surprised he sat as still as he did for so long without loosing interest but I was very confident with the rut in full swing and the deer movement being so good that late into the morning we just might get a shot at something. 10:00 we have another encounter with the big 8 who would just not come close enough again and I think Eric started to doubt if anything was going to give us a shot. 10:30 he tells me he hears something to his left and sure enough 2 does materialize 20 yards to our left in the thicket heading towards our shooting lane. It took them a solid ten minutes to finally make their way to the lane. Seemed like forever. He remained focused and I told him it was his call and when they stepped in the clearing and he had a good shot to go ahead and take it. Needless to say Eric performed like a seasoned veteran and waited for the perfect shot, kept his cool and dropped the deer in his tracks at 35 yards. He hit the deer high in the shoulder, she bellowed and that was it. He yelled, fist pumped and was shaking me like a rag doll. He was so excited as was I. It was definately the most rewarding hunt I have ever been on and one of the proudest moments of my life. We were hoping for one of the big bucks but his button buck (thats what it turned out to be) was larger than life at that moment abd still is. Could'nt be any happier or more proud than I am right now. Sorry so many pics but they were just too good not to share. Congrats Eric! The set up: The rookie hunter: The proud dad and hunter: The shot: [The claim: The drag:
