LOL, some years back had a buddy come by with some gadwalls in the bed of his truck. Asked me what they were, so I told him they were endangered fulvous tree ducks, or some such,completely protected, $1,000 fine per bird.
His eyes got BIG until I bust out laughing! He had been waterfowling for 30 years and NEVER seen one before, at least where he hunted. Couple days later I was talking to a waterman down near Piccowaxen creek, started talking hunting, and he says, "You'll NEVER guess what I've been killing this year!"
"Gadwalls?" I asked. His jaw dropped.
Never seen them before or since.
Once we had a bunch of birds circling and circling, high but slowly working down. I had NO idea what they were, but when I asked my buddy, he said, "I don't know, but if they keep getting closer, we'll shoot and FIND out!"
