The corn at one of my best properties has been cut down since August and the deer activity has been pretty slow this deer. They also started to build a new home at one end of the corn field, so I'm going to try and bait them in. Thanks guys I'm going to try the molasses corn! I will let you guy's know how it's works out. Thanks Again!

I hunt near nanjemoy and our corn piles are getting hit hard on some and not much at all on others. I'll be hunting this Thurs. thru Sat. and I'm sure with this cold weather all the corn will be almost gone. That's ok though I know where they sell it. I'll replentish on Sunday. The corn feeding works better in late season hunting when it's cold, at least thats the way it's worked for me the last 15 seasons in Nanjemoy. I watched a yearling last weekend walk past a pile of corn that had been out for a couple weeks and go straight to a pile that had only been out for a couple of days. They like it fresh. I've talked to guys who swear by molassass corn, it doesn't work well in automatic feeders because the molassass sticks to the mechanisms. Good luck and happy baiting.

Have the same problem every year and it seems like it occurs when the acorns fall. Anyone use apples & pears ? I have for years and they work great ,the wife thought the kids eat alot fruit until she caught me snatching them earlier this year !!!!!

When you guy's put corn out, what works best a pile of corn or spreading it out?

GOTTA spread it out. If it is piled up, moisture collects in the corn and it will rot. Once that happens you just have a pile of rotten corn. The deer won't touch it.

Thanks! I have heard that some guys use piles and some spread it out. I just want to know the pro's and con's. Spreading it out makes more sense making the deer work harder, and keeping them from eating it all at once!

I like to drop it in a pile and then kick it around a little so that there is not corn on top of corn. THE DEER HUNTER is right, if you leave it in a pile the corn will rot. Like this

If you use the molasses corn it won't be there but for two days so it doesn't matter! Sorry guys but I am hooked on using that stuff! It works so much better for me!

I have benn running a corn pile since early October. I have seen a good amount of action from the stand, but lately I have only seen does. When they come in they are definitely skiddish due to it being so late in the season. Last week I had a doe come in and cirlce the corn pile very carefully. Then bent down and stretched out to smell it and abruptly left, not in a hurry just decided to browse elsewhere. Not sure what was going on, but went back on Sat(12/16) all the corn was gone again.
Has anyone else witnessed this odd behavior??

Had a doe do that same thing to my cornpile in September. She new something wasn't quite right. When she was walking away she gave me a broadside shot and I've been enjoying her since. Smart enough to know when danger is around and dumb enough to run into a pair of headlights doing 60mph.

When you guy's put corn out, what works best a pile of corn or spreading it out? It’s best to spread it out, piles can facilitate the spread of CWD... to my knowledge, CWD is not a problem in MD YET. It’s still best to play defense, and not pile the corn / feed up.... spread it out, deer prefer to walk and graze anyways, and spread all around is better then piled IMO.

Well, good news and bad news. Good news, it ain't the foxes. One of the corn piles is an old trough feeder, 2' feet off the ground, so it isn't foxes there. Bad news, I think I've figured it out. One of the neighbors has two dogs, an old black lab and a young yellow lab, that are running. Dad saw them in our woods a month ago and called the SOB, said he'd keep them put away. I saw one a half mile down the road two weeks ago, but didn't know it was his. Tonight both were in my yard when I came out to go bow hunting, ran off through the field and into my oak woods. SOB isn't answering his phone tonight - he's going to get an earful when he does. Take his labs duck hunting with you one day......to AUGIE's farm...... ;D
