I didn't get drawn this year so I'm not heading out. GPS??? When I went we hunted south of Friendsville on private lands, but with the tags being open for public or private this year I'd probably hit somewhere in Savage River SF. I've seen some brute tracks up there grouse and turkey hunting. I had enough the first year to last me for awhile. I went to Frostburg SU and love the area out there, but I had my name on enough news reports and papers after killing #1. You guys can handle the reporters this year!

I lived there myself for 4 years while going to school, but there was no bear season then. I did do some deer hunting & fishing there. It is beautiful!

What years were you there? I started in '87, graduated in '91, went back for a semester of graduate school during summer of '92. Haven't been out in almost a year, I miss those mountains.

1998 - 2002 Is when I was there. Probably been about 2 years since I have been there myself. Maybe I should have done what some of my buddies there did & taken the extended plan to stay for 6.

They always offered a limited number of public land tags, but this year chaged them all to public or private, there's just so much area out there. Would hate to get one of those 500 pounders way back in Savage!!
Good luck Chagen, have fun up there, only a few days away. Let us know how you do!!

I did some deer hunting in the Savage forest during my time at FSU. Man is that a big place. I couldn't even imagine trying to pull a bear up & over one of those mountains.

I only had to drag my bear 100yds across flat ground to the road and it was a chore!! and it only weighed 250+/-. I would hate to have to lug one any distance without the aid of a vehicle of some sort.
