Hi Brenda, welcome to the site. I personally love a light rain to hunt in. It will help to knock down human scent better than anything. A heavy rain might be a different story, I don't hunt much in heavy rain. I have more luck spotting the movement of a deer before I hear them and as far as not seeing deer all the time, well welcome to hunting. That's how it goes but thats part of the draw, you never know what you might see or not see out there. If you have some private land to hunt on try putting out a little corn to the northwest side of your stand, the wind in the winter time usually comes from that direction and that will keep your human scent from going over the bait. You might want to read back through some of the older posts on this website to see what other people are doing to attract deer, just be careful not to spend too much money on whatever you do, it can get addictive. Good luck to you and your bf.

Hey Brenda, welcome aboard!
Like rommel, I like to hunt in a light rain, LIGHT being the key word. You'll need to use your eyes more than your ears when things are damp. I prefer to set up where the deer are and want to be, instead of trying to draw them to me. But depending on the property, sometimes not always possible. Corn will work. That said, corn will work.

Welcome to the site. It sounds like you know how to enjoy your Saturdays. I never really enjoyed hunting in the rain until I bought a tree umbrella. It is a camo umbrella that screws into the tree above you. I now love to hunt in the rain. Be careful though, tracking a blood trail in the rain can be extremely difficult for a new or experienced hunter. A good clean shot is a must. Good luck!
