My cousin and I hunted a beaver pond for wood ducks, saw well over 100, killed one, left a half box shells each of emptys. Pass shooting divers is NOT good practice for woodies flashing through thick standing timber!!

Did okay, managed to scratch down 6 woodies and 1 mallard. Didn't see any teal which I expected to be there.

Had one cool thing happen that morning, one not so cool. The cool thing was the beavers, they kept coming up withing few feet of us in the dark and slap-splooshing right next to us in the dark while we waited for light, they didn't know what we were! Not cool was when my cousin shot as a duck overhead, hit a dead branch and I didn't see it fall - hit me square on the thumb! All cut up and bruised, lucky it ain't broke, branch was 3-4" thick!

Walked 8/10ths of a mile last week, to a backed up, secluded little beaver pond, that is always loaded with woodies. Acorns fall down like rain. Had JUST asked the landowner about it, and he said full of water and ducks, and asked me to take out the beavers again this winter.Told him I'd be glad to. So, hoofed it 8/10ths of a mile, in that warm weather, IN chest waders with all my gear, and as I get close ,see waist high grass. As in, IT'S BEEN DRYED UP ALL SUMMER!!!!
Soaked in sweat and less than happy, I hump it BACK UPHILL 8/10ths back to my truck. THAT has been the extent of my early season ducking.
