Well since I've finished the silver Lehigh (all except the getting it bloody part ) you fellas may be wondering what's next on the build list. Just ordered the parts and wood and barrel for my first commisioned gun, a .40 cal, straight Octagon 36" barrel, early Lancaster style that a friend wants me to build for him for squirrels and close range deer. Going pretty traditional on this one, although lots of scroll carving on the woodwork. Next for me, and I got the stock blank and barrel and lock at Dixon's the other week, is a big bore rifle. .54 cal, 44" swamped barrel, very fancy curly wood, Lebanon/Beck style stock, but I think I'm going nuts & non-traditional on this one. Planning on carved and engraved Ospreys all over it. Hope to have it done for the 2009 bear season. ;D Going to be interesting having two builds going at once, not sure if I'll switch off between then or do one to completion then start the next. Also going to likely be moving in the next few months, so moving shop tools and setting up a new workplace for gunsmithing will be an ordeal.

where you going to be moving to? finally couldn't take it anymore and have to move to the western shore? if you were to leave the eastern shore that broom stick of a family tree would get a little straighter over there...

Western shore?? Now there's the best joke I've heard all day, and it comes from BIG OX to boot! Grandpap passed away this weekend, I'll be moving down to the farm full time and taking that place over now. Selling the place in town in Cambridge and live amongst the ducks and geese and deer all year. My hunting shack will probably be turned into my gun building shop when I get there...

My condolences Dave.
And maybe you ought to think about building a comemmorative gun: "Grandpap". That way, you'd carry his memory every fall.

Thanks everybody, been a hard week.
Dave, the Silver Lehigh that I just got done was one of the last things he held in his hands, finished it just a few days before he was too far gone to know what was happening. Gotta kill a few this fall for him with that.
