Black crabs are crabs that are just basically older than the other crabs. They have been in there shell longer. The crabs that are black are fatter and fuller, they have had more time to eat and fatten up. The white crabs that are poor as hell have recently shedded and have not had time to fatten and harden up in there new shell. The bottom def changes the shell color in some cases. You can bet your ass if there black or rusty colored on the underside of the shell than there gonna be really good crabs.

anybody tried the trotline on the pax lately? I went last week. It was so good, I went fishing instead this week! ;D Been spotty lately. Funny thing was, TONS of 3"-4" crabs: ate my line up!

anybody tried the trotline on the pax lately? Hadn't been for a while ,but now it's ;D ;D ;D Had 19 keepers the first run Thursday. Thought I was headed for a 4 run bushel, but as soon as the tide started running hard it shut down. And it ran HARD: tide was up above normal high, and really flowed out. Lots of grass starting to break up and come out as well, fouling every bait with a softball sized clump. But they were GOOD! ;D

Had to weed thru a lot of BIG, poor crabs, but wound up with a bushel of decent ones this afternoon . Steaming now.....

Caught a bushel in an hour and a half yesterday evening, despite being beat up by the wind, and having to weed through a lot of papershells. Even saw a couple bunches of teal zipping around.
TOO many choices this time of year!

Yes, but it matters WHERE. My usual spot quit me about 2 weeks ago. Late shed, so TONS of papershells, plus tons of little crabs are moving down. Ate my line up. But a buddy is down river in deeper water, and catching plenty of heavy crabs.

Went out this morning on the Pax, man was it foggy. Some big ones out there too. Around 3 to 6 keepers a run but they were 6 to 8 inch keepers. Caught a bushel and called it a day. 5 time as many females as males and the females are big too. Can't keep them though. Talked to other crabbers and everybody is doing good. Get a chance to go it's hot now.
